The Blue Zone concept was later popularised internationally by American journalist Dan Buettner, notably through his book The Blue Zones, published in 2008. It presents five territories associated with exceptional longevity, among which are the four territories historically scientifically validated as Blue Zones: Sardinia (Italy), Okinawa (Japan), the Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica) and Ikaria (Greece), to which Loma Linda (California) is added, integrated into the Blue Zones model by Buettner in 2005.
These territories combine remarkable biodiversity with traditional lifestyles, offering an inspiring model for the development of innovative natural ingredients for cosmetic, dermocosmetic and nutraceutical applications targeting skin longevity.
